cramik cup

Post by potter » Sat Oct 20, 2012 4:51 pm

just gauging interest here on a new idea that Selva and I have been discussing: the cramik cup. This would be a once-in-2-months contest, with a points tally that determines the winner at the end. Right now the thinking would be a $60 membership fee that covers all 6 contest. Based on 25 "members" that would be a payout at the end of something like 1,000 for 1st, $300 for 2nd, $200 for 3rd.

Initial thinking is that the dates would be set in advance and just like cramikfest, the event locale would be determined a day or 2 before. We would probably shoot for 6 different locations, and once a beach has been used it would not be up again until the next year.

The events would be short, one division, probably 3 heats (megaheat of 40 min or so, semis of 20 min, and a 20 min final).

I think this would be a fun way for everyone to get together once every 8 weeks or so and skim together and force people to go skim some places they probably wouldn't.

I know most of you don't post who read this crap, but please take a minute to login and register your opinion; especially if you're interested.

this sound very creative! with the handicap it would be possible for younger and older guys like potter and 57 to have a chance. I might try just to donate to the funding.

I vote yes, obviously :D . I think it's a neat idea that will allow us to have a fun, friendly competition (with rewards) while being able to utilize a variety of spots since we aren't locked into one day a year; e.g. HMB/Montara in summer, Baker/Bodega in fall or Lefts in winter.

I think this is one of the best ideas brought up on here in a long time. This type of organization I think would go a long way to benefit the norcal skim community as a whole in order to bring the tons of people that live here a little closer and also to provide prospective visitors some incentive to make the trip.

Very good idea. I'll pitch in my $60 even though I'll only make it to a few of events most likely. You will probably need some of us non contenders to get the head count up. It would be extra work but I would suggest taking some of the proceeds and designing a t-shirt(wow how original) for the series that comes with the entry fee. Some of the also rans might like the "Well at least I know I'll get a cool t-shirt" prize. If you do go this route please spend the extra dollar and get the heavy duty 6.1 oz shirts instead of a 5oz or less cheap tees. I also vote for a 200lb plus handicap. Daver will probably want a three kids handicap as well. Oh and an automatic point deduction if you do not ride a board that was either made in Concord or Moss Beach.

Hell yeah I'm game! Awesome overall ideas guys. One question is how/who would be the judges for the individual events? Maybe just have the competitors judge it and pick placement on everybody except themselves?

Also I think it would maybe be a good idea for every competitor to be able to throw out there lowest event score whether they did bad or couldn't make it, so that only the top 5 results are totaled. I'm sure alot of people can't make it to all of the events, maybe for good reason, so this would help even the field a little bit and if somebody makes it to all of the events, well than they''re just increasing their odds of having 5 keeper scores. The surfing world tour works similar to this.

Kind of agree with Dustin surf event style thing where there are 3, 4 or 5 star events.

I feel like this is an awesome idea. I am lovin' the passion on here. My favorite part is going to be able to explore skim spots or typically do not skim at regularly. Also, a fair entry fee! Overall, I am down for this!

I don't think you should count me in, I have to many hobbies too little time unfortunately I doubt I could seriously follow a cup of any kind, not to mention that my skills need improvement...maybe next year if I get my life back together!
