Old outdated directions to the cove
Here’s directions from last year (courtesy of Deebo), things have changed somewhat, but these directions will work perfectly for those of you unfamiliar with the area.
- Find your way to HWY 1 & Bodega Bay
- When heading North on HWY 1 and first entering Bodega Bay take your first Left onto Harbor Way.
- Next make a Left onto Heron DR.
- Next make a Left onto Mockingbird Dr.
- Soon after pull into the small Parking Lot on your left 20600 Mockingbird Dr. (red P on map).
- At this point you have 2 choices on how to get to the Cramfest skim site both of which you have to walk about a half a mile to get there. You can :
A. If you don’t have a bunch of heavy stuff to bring down and you want to get to the beach ASAP you can pay the $6 parking fee and head down the Pinnacle Gulch trail directly across the parking lot (blue Trail on map). Keep going on the trail until you get to the beach. When you first get to the beach don’t panic if the waves look like crap, cus you’re not quite to the Cramfest skim site yet. Head south aka Left when looking at the ocean over the rocks till you get to the next cove with a nice steep beach. You’re there! (red X on map)
Of course, there’s a shortcut. Do yourself a favor and ask someone for the shortcut if you don’t know where it is.
B. If you do have a bunch of heavy stuff and/or want an easier shorter trail, but slightly longer route pass up the parking lot and continue on Mockingbird Dr. Take your first left at Osprey Dr. Shortly after you will see a trail head off to your left. This is Short tail trail (pink Trail on map). This trail is shorter and nicer with less steps and stuff. The problem is you’re not really supposed to park there as far as I know, so your best bet is to drop all your stuff off at the trail then go back park your car in the parking lot, pay the 6$ fee, and jog back to your stuff at the trailhead. I have parked at the trailhead before and nothing has happened, but I can’t guarantee you won’t get a ticket or something if you do so it’s your risk if you want to. At this point take the trail until you get to the beach. Again when you get to the beach don’t panic if the waves are walled up and crappy looking you’re not quite to the Cramfest skim site yet. Next head north aka right when looking at the ocean over the rocks to the next cove with a nice steep beach. You’re there! (red X on map)
